気付いてみれば、私自身、初めて会う人や初めて訪れる場所について同じことをやっていた。

私が授業をすることになる東京郊外の古い立派なキャンパスを初めて案内された時、私はたくさんの質問をした。「あの建物はどのくらい古いのですか？」「このキャンパスには何人くらいの学生がいるのですか？」「あの建物はどうして白いのですか？」「その柱はギリシャ様式ですか？」「図書館には何冊の本がありますか？」
