The museum has many works by Vincent van Gogh as well as other modern painters.

分からない箇所は辞書で引きます。
Vincent van Gogh は有名なゴッホという画家のことです。とすれば、
museum は美術館だろうと察しが付くでしょう。
The museum が has 持っている、所蔵していると言っています。
後半には as well as other modern painters と、ほかの現代の画家（のもの）も同様に、ともあります。

works は何の話をしているのでしょうか？ゴッホやほかの画家の作品を所蔵しているのだと分かりますよね？

1. a thing or thing that are produced as a result of work
2. the job that a person does especially in order to earn money
3. the duties that you have and the activities that you do as part of your job
4. tasks that need to be done

それぞれの語義の最初の言葉がまず鍵です。仕事や義務ではなくて物ですね？１番が仕事の結果として作り出されるものだと言っています。
