theをつけるときとつけない時の違いがわかりません。

例えば、「2日間だけ頑張った。」と言う時に
(a)We worked hard for the only two days.
(b)We worked hard for only two days.

のどちらになるのでしょうか？
個人的にはその2日間が話題に上がってれば(b)で上がってなくいきなり言ったのなら(a)のような気がしました。

どなたかわかる方いらっしゃいましたら教えていただけると幸いです。

下記webstter辞書の例文をみると、形容詞として使われる場合（＝唯一）は"the only"、副詞として使われる場合（＝たった）は"only" という感じですね。

ということは、(b)We worked hard for only two days.が正解ですね。

参考に書かれている通りです。

例えば、今月、社長が工場に2日だけ来た時に、その2日だけ働いたとき
We worked hard for the only two days.
その2日間が話題に上がってれば(a)

参考だと特別な日だけ

さぼっていることがおおくて、2日しか働かなかったとき
We worked hard for only two days
上がってなくいきなり言ったのなら(b)

参考だといっぱいある日のうちの2日
