「なぜ人間は仲良く、平和に暮らせないのでしょう？
この破壊はいったい何のためだろう？
人間は復興用に組み立て式の家を発明する一方において
どうして飛行機や戦車を大きくしようと努力するのでしょう。

そして人類が一人の例外もなく全部大きな変化に経るまでには、
戦争の絶え間はなく、建設されつちかわれ育てられたすべてのものが破壊されゆがめられ、
人類はまた最初からすべてをやり直さなければならないでしょう。」

ご指摘の日本語訳とはちょっと違うかもしれませんが
高校の教科書に載った日記の中から該当しそうな箇所の抜粋です。

Why can't people live in peace together? The question is often asked, but no one has found a good answer. And why are they making more and more bombs and warplanes? Why are millions spent on the war every day,while there is no money spent for hospitals, artist, or the poor? Oh, why are people so crazy?
I do not believe that only the politicians are guilty of starting this war. Oh no, the common people are guilty too. All people must change, or wars will break out again and again.
