Still, some Dutch companies like Biox, a young company fully devoted to a solution and are banking on this biofuel.
Biox has applied to build three palm oil power plants in the Netherlands ;the first one gained approval just last week. It is currently auditing its plantation and refineries in Indonesia for sustainability .
“Yes, there have been bad examples in the palm oil industry,” said Arjen Brinkman, a company official.
“But it is now clear that to serve Europe’s markets for biofuel and bioenergy, you will have to prove that you produce it sustainably — that you are producing less, not more CO2.”

それでも、パーム油からエネルギーを作り出すことに全力を注いでいる若い会社のひとつであるバイオックス（※1）のようないくつかのオランダ企業は、解決策をみつけてこのバイオ燃料が当てになることに自信を持っている。
バイオックスはオランダで3つのパーム油発電所建設を申請した。ひとつめはまさに先週承認を得た。現在持続可能性について、インドネシアで農園と製油所を監査中である。
「確かに、パーム油産業には複数の悪い事例がありました。」と同社役員のアリエン・ブリンクマンは述べた。
「しかし今、バイオ燃料とバイオエネルギーをヨーロッパ市場に供給する為には、それが環境に優しく持続的に作られるか、少ない生産量で、さらに多くの二酸化炭素を生み出さないか証明しなければならないことは、明らかなのです。」
