In the attached photograph the knife may appear to have a small chip at the tip, but it shows it has never been used.

All the brand-new knives that Mr. Tanaka produces look like the photograph.

Once the knife is sharpened on a whetstone the chip-like feature will disappear.

If you wish, it is possible to ask Mr. Tanaka to do the sharpening.
