それを踏まえて、
1. In that movie, the actor played the role of a salesman. (, 入らない?)
His life was lonely.(. 忘れてない?)
 the actor = his
his は人で所有格だから whose に代えて先行詞の後につける。
 In that movie, the actor whose life is lonely played the role of a salesman.

2. The movie is about the life of a Japanese family in the 1950s.
Masaki saw the movie.(ふつう the movie を it にします。)
The movie = the movie
the movie は物で目的語だから、目的格 which に代えて、先行詞のすぐ後につける。
The movie which Masaki saw is about the life of a Japanese family in the 1950s.
