メアリーは好きな人のためにこの手紙を書いたんだというくらいのことは分かってあげなさいよ．(優しい言い方)

Being... なら「...であること」
Be... なら「...でありなさい」
このコンテキストでは intelligent が｢知性｣や｢知識｣を指すような言葉ではないので，"You should tell that..." くらいに訳した方が自然だと思います．
Be intelligent enough to understand ~「～くらい分かりなさい」

前提条件のような意味なら、if "be intelligent" means some sort of prerequisite,

メアリーが恋人のためにこの手紙を書いたことがわかる、十分な理解力があること。

としてもよいかも。

I think your meaning is correct however this is a statement said to someone. For example:

John said, "Be intelligent enough to understand that Santa is not real"

So...

John said, "Be intelligent enough to understand that Mary wrote this letter for her lover."

I'm looking for a subtle expression. Here's what I think the last part is.. however it doesn't seem quite right - or maybe it's too direct.

書いたことくらいわかるくらいは賢くなれ。
