はlaysが正しいのですが、何故そうなるのですか⁇

lie が自動詞で、lay が他動詞というのがわかっているかを見る問題です。

すぐ後に herself と目的語があるから、他動詞の lays が正解ということになります。

Lie still.
She lay asleep on the bed.
He lay dead on the floor.

[+ object] ＝他動詞

lie は「横たわる」

lay は lay 〜で「〜を横たえる」

意味的には lie というひっかけ問題です。

lay oneself で「自分自身を横たえる」で
「横たわる」と同じことになります。

ここは herself があるから lays の方が正しくなります。

目的語があれば lay の方です。
