カナダ建築学部

進路に悩む高校２年生です。
カナダで建築学部に特化した、
というか優れている大学はどこでしょうか？
またその大学はTOEFLで何点くらいを
最低限としているのでしょうか？

留学の体験談など教えていただければ幸いです。

こんにちは。

カナダの建築学部に留学を希望されているので、この分野で優れている大学と、入学に必要なTOEFLのスコアが知りたいという質問ですね。私の専門とは違うので、詳しいことはいえないですが、これぐらいなら分かります。

まず、カナダの建築学部は業界団体{Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB)、The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada}から認証を受けている必要があるみたいです。また、カナダにおいては、認定校全てが学部レベルで建築の専攻を持っているわけではなく、本格的な建築の専攻は、修士以降から始まるらしいです。だから、学部レベルから建築の認定コースを持っている学校がこの分野で優れた学校ということができるのかなと思います。その点から考えると、Waterloo, Toronto, Carleton, McGillが強そうですね。どうやら、この分野ではオンタリオとケベック等の東側の州が突出しているようです。また、Dalhousieは入学がフレキシブルで入りやすそうです。

次に、英語のテストについてですが、カナダでメジャーなのはTOEFLとIELTSです。普通はTOEFLを受けますが、学校によってはIELTSの方が有利なこともあります。なお、IELTSですが、 with no part less than 6.0というのが、思いのほか厄介ですから、基本TOEFLで勝負した方が良いです。TOEFL受験については、出願時期の関係上、入学する年の前年の１０月ぐらいまでには、受け終わっている必要があります。もしくは、入学する学校が決定した後～出発の直前期ぐらいが再受験のチャンスですね。

University of Toronto：　accredited for both undergraduate and graduate degrees

　　Discretionary Rangeの場合、Overall 89-99 (19 - 21 on Writing)
☆　IELTS (Academic)：　Overall 6.5 (with no band below 6.0.)

Ryerson University：　undergraduate program in Architectural Science explores careers within the construction industry.
☆　TOEFL iBT：　Overall 85
☆　IELTS (Academic)：Overall 6.5

Carleton University：　accredited undergraduate and professional and post-professional graduate programs. Undergraduate students are given the choice to focus their studies in design, urbanism, conservation and sustainability or philosophy and criticism.
☆　TOEFL iBT ： Overall 86 (22 in writing and speaking, 20 reading and listening)
☆　IELTS (Academic)：　Overall 6.5 IELTS (min 6.0 each band)

■　マニトバ州 ：
University of Manitoba：　an unaccredited undergraduate program in architecture that can be used as a prerequisite to a graduate degree.
☆　TOEFL iBT ： Overall 80 (with no less than 19 on each of component)
☆　IELTS (Academic)： Overall 6.5

■　ケベック州：
McGill University：　undergraduate program and graduate program's are all accredited.
☆　TOEFL iBT ： Overall 90( reading, writing, listening, and speaking minimum score of 21)
☆　IELTS (Academic)：Overall 6.5 or better

■　ノバスコシア州 ：
Dalhousie University：　Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies which is considered a prerequisite for a masters program. The BEDS is a two-year senior undergraduate program that students may enter after two years of general studies at the undergraduate level.
