下記英英辞書の意味と例題からすると

a. To grant authority for (something to be made or done); place an order for:
commission a new symphony for the festival.

b. To authorize or engage (someone to do something):
commission an architect to design a building.

The government commissioned a public opinion survey to the polling agency.

commiisonは権限を委託する、注文する、依頼するが転じての”委託する”


しかしcommitは下記が示すようにどちらかと言えば面倒をかける又は見てもらうようなケースの委託となるのであろう。

to give someone or something to someone else to take care of

commit responsibilities to an assistant.
I commit my children to You and thank You for Your protection and care.

もう少し詳しく付け加えると、下記が他動詞の“commit”と”commission “の違いを示すURLです。

最初の文にthat以降がcommit is ＊while commission is to ~になってますが、＊はURLの後で出てくるUsage Noteの文章が入ります。説明があまりにも長いため省略してるようです。

As verbs the difference between commit and commission is that commit is (to , entrust, consign. These words have in ～) while commission is to send or officially charge someone or some group to do something.

分かりやすく説明すると

commsionとは to send or officially charge someone to do something.
send：〔命令により軍隊などを〕派遣する、〔求めにより人を〕行かせる、〔調査のために人を〕送る
charge：〔+目的語+to do〕〈人に〉(権威をもって)〈…するように〉命じる.

と言うような限定的な使いかた。

一方commitとは
entrust　(信頼して)任せる
consign〔人や動物などの世話を人に〕委ねる、任せる〈…を〉又は〔他の管理に〕ゆだねる，託す，任す 〔to，into〕.
というようにもっと広範囲に置いて委託の意味で使える。

ということは人に～をゆだねるという一般的な意味ではcommissionは使えない。
