quick(ly)とrapid(ly)の違いがいまいちよくわかりません。わかりやすく説明してください。よろしくお願いします。

実例から判断して下さい。

バッサリ云えば、「quickly」動作・行動(の開始)が素早い、 「rapidly」は動作・行動(の速度)が素早い。但し、微妙な「接近」もあることはある。 「rapidly」の実例・使用例は別に提示します。

何かが動く時

Rapid は、動きそのものが速いということ。（動いてからの話）
Quick は、動くまでの時間が短いということ。（動くまでの話）

下記は類義語の説明です。参考にしてください。

synonyms FAST, RAPID, SWIFT, FLEET, QUICK, SPEEDY, HASTY, EXPEDITIOUS mean moving, proceeding, or acting with celerity. FAST and RAPID are very close in meaning, but FAST applies particularly to the thing that moves <fast horses> and RAPID to the movement itself <rapid current>. SWIFT suggests great rapidity coupled with ease of movement <returned the ball with one swift stroke>. FLEET adds the implication of lightness and nimbleness <fleet runners>. QUICK suggests promptness and the taking of little time <a quick wit>. SPEEDY implies quickness of successful accomplishment <speedy delivery of mail> and may also suggest unusual velocity. No3です。

下の回答で、quick は動くまでの時間が短いと書きましたが、動きそのものの時間が短い場合も言うようです。

Rapid：動きのスピードが速い。→速い
Quick：動くまでの時間、動きに要する時間が短い→素早い

ですね。

さうですね、微妙ですね、

例えば、warn someone about a ＿＿＿＿ spreading e-mail worm /// （人）に急速に広がっている電子メール・ワームについて警告するとあって、rapidly か quicklyのどちらが入るかを知りたい場合、どのように見分ければいいのでしょうか？　それを知りたいのです。

この場合は「rapidly」ですね、間違いなく。 この事態が「素早く」「発生した」のではなく、「素早く・とても速いスピード」で「拡大する」のですから、ここは「quickly」ではおかしいです。

マイクロソフト提供のアンチビールスソフトがとても頼りなかったのでそのワーム(ウイルス)が素早く拡がってしまった。「立ち上がりも速いが広がりも速い」 両方の意味になりますね。 この様な場合は
私見ですが、「quickly」でも「rapidly」でもどちらでも良い様な気がします。勿論、正しくは「quickly」ですが。。。。
