英語で「監督する」という意味の単語

英語で「監督する」って意味の単語に supervise とか superintend とか oversee とかありますけど、それぞれ意味的にどう違うんですか？

なかなかイメージを伝えるのは難しいかもしれませんね。

取りあえず分解してみましょう。

super
→監督者、管理人
という意味がすでに含まれています。
super.＝superior
→上役・先輩／上位の・上級の

vise
→～を万力で締める

intend
→～させようとする

でまぁ、
supervise
→上役が万力で締める
superintend
→上役が～させようとする
が派生して「管理する」の意味になったのだと想像できますね。

over
→頭上(から)
see
→見る
oversee自体に「見渡す」という意味があるように、「サボっている従業員がいないか頭上から見渡している→管理している」シーンが想像できますね。

個人的には、
supervise＞superintend＞oversee
の順で管理の度合いが厳しいような気がしますが、あまり差はないでしょう。使用するTPOの違いはあるのかもしれませんが、、、、。
万力で締めつけられるほど管理されるのはイヤですね。
