英語のゲームをしていて出てきた分からない表現

英語のゲームをしていて, いまいち訳し方がわからない表現がいくつかでてきました。


①からの文：Word of coming violence, however, drove him from the peaceful vocation of farming.
この文でわからないのはof doingの部分です。普通に「来ている暴力の言葉」とか「浴びせられる暴言」とかでいいのでしょうか?　同格?
名詞 of doingの訳し方が知りたいです。

②からの文：Unfortunately, it didn't take war and turmoil long to find his farm.
これについては文脈も掴めていないかもしれません。
「特殊な奴が出てきた~。頑丈で, 毅然としてて, よく働き ~。庶民的な農家の働き手の一人として~。」ときて, 問題の文です。まったくわかりません。
まずitがわからない, it = Fritz? homestead? そしてdidn't take war and ~「争いをとらなかった」でしょうか。longは副詞?第五文型なら形容詞? to find~は目的?

もともと英語得意じゃないので軽動詞とかほんとに苦手です。


③からの文：Reimund's breath could probably ink a chunk of coal.
こういう日本の教育で見慣れないような表現ってどう対処すればいいんでしょうか...

「レイムンドの息はおそらく石炭のかたまりに署名できそうだ」?


最後に, こういった表現をすらすらと読めるようになるにはどういった勉強をすればいいでしょうか。

　⇒　（意訳）　戦争の噂

・vocation of farming
　→　農業と言う仕事
　＊　farming = 農業、農耕

確かに彼は牛達を恋しい（平和な農夫に戻りたい）と思うこともあるがフリッツならば傭兵の辛い生活にもすぐ慣れるだろう。

（幼少期の頃から鉱山で働いていた）レイムンドの息は石炭のかたまりを黒く塗りつぶすことができるだろう。

つまり「それほどに長い間レイムンドは鉱山と言う過酷な環境で働いていた」と言いたいんですね。
