東大の過去問です。
We are all aware that technology has created a world that even our parents would not have believed possible and that many of them would have contemplated with alarm. Most of this world we take so completely for (   ) that merely turn switches, dial telephones

この(   )にはgrantedが入るのですが、なぜgrantedなのでしょうか？
他にも選択肢として1.example 3.lost 4.nothingがあったのですが、なぜこの３つだとダメなのですか？？どなたか教えて頂きたいです。ちなみに take it for granted that 構文だから理屈なんてないのかと考えましたが、そももそ件の文に it が無いのが気になります。そうすると、that が必要ないように感じられてしまいます。あるいは、so〜that構文とtake it for granted that構文とが綯い交ぜになった文なのでしょうか？

なぜ他のがだめなのか、ということでしたね。
take O for granted で SVOC 的と申し上げました。

give up O for/as lost/dead
O をなくした（亡くなった）ものとあきらめる
のような表現に出会ったことがあるかでどうか。

as ～が補語的に用いられることはよく知られていますが、
一部に、こういう for ～が補語的に感じられることがあります。

lost はそこからひっかけとなる選択肢でしょう。
補語的に、for の後に形容詞・分詞が来ます。

as で補語的に as 形容詞・分詞というのは
regard A as B を筆頭にいろいろありますが、
for は一部の慣用表現に限られます。

その一つが take O for granted という表現です。

形式目的語の前に、この
take O for granted で覚えておくことです。

find it difficult to ...
など、形式目的語のもとは、たいてい SVOC です。

続きがありそうですし、merely の前に主語 we が必要です。

take it for granted that ～の it は形式目的語ですが、
もともと take O for granted で「O を当然のことと思う」という SVOC 的表現です。
O に that 節を持ってきたい場合に、このような形式目的語の形になりますが、
単に this とか、the 名詞とかでも O になります。

ここは後の流れによっては、
world が先行詞となって、目的格の関係代名詞の省略、ということになりますが、
world ＋修飾となって、world が主語となる、相手の動詞が見つかりません。

つまり、We take MOST OF THIS WORLD for granted so completely that we V
この世界の大部分をとても完全に当然のことと思っているので、...
という so that 構文で、take O for granted の O が前に出ていると考えるのが自然です。

that ～は so that の方であり、take it for granted that ではありません。

とにかく、take O for granted があって、
that 節が目的語になるとは限りません。

（単にスイッチをひねるとか電話をかけるとか、我々が至極当たり前の如く受け入れていいるこの世界のほとんどは） 
 
下記WEBSTERにあるように、必ずしも、it を取るとは限らないようですが、本問の場合はwe take (most of this world) so completely for granted と、 倒置されていると考えればいいと思います。 
意味から考えて、1.example 3.lost 4.nothing のいずれも不適当でしょう。
