The complexity of contemporary societies requires more specialized training for the young than what can be (generally) provided solely by the family.

more specialized training とくらべる対象は、what [ = (the kind of) training that] can be provided by the family になります。

誤りを含む箇所は、than 以下で、the complexity の動詞 require と can provide の比較ではないこと。
