The Romantic Route was established in 1950 to help boost the economy in the area. Today this popular journey attracts well over a million visitors each year. Würzburg is the northernmost city on the Romantic Route. The town of Rothenburg is about 1,000 years old and is one of the best preserved medieval town in Germany. It's famous for many things including the medieval wall that surrounds most of the town. It is also possible to bicycle the Romantic Route. It usually takes just over three weeks to visit all 28 cities and towns along the Romantic Route.
