タイガー・ウッズがショットをした後、グリーンに向かうボールを見ながら”Be the number. Be the number…”と呟いていました。どういう意味ですか？

へー面白いですね。

そんな表現があるの初めて知りました。

調べたところ最初の回答者さんと同じ記事とまた別の記事を見つけました。

be right　と　be the number　の二通りの表現があるようです。

要するに "be the right club" か "be the right distance" のどちらかか両方の意味で「選択したクラブがあっていてくれ」とか「ちょうど良い距離でいてくれ」と言う願いのようなものらしいです。

"be the (right) number" と「適切な番号であってくれ」と言うのは、つまり「選択したクラブがあっていてくれ」と同じ意味で、ゴルフクラブの番号のことのようです。（もしくは飛距離の「ナンバー」も含められているかもしれません）

タイガーの動画でbe the right numberと呟いているものもありました。ボールがピン方向に飛んでいったので、番手通りの飛距離が出ればピタっと寄るという場面でした。お陰様でスッキリしました。

The expression "be the number" is similar to "be right", which is another commonly heard expression. It means that the player knows that they have struck the ball well, it is definitely heading in the right direction (probably right at the pin), and now they hope that the club they selected for the shot (the "number" of the club) is the correct choice so the distance the shot travels will also be good. 「"be right" とほぼ似た表現」と有るので、ゴルフ的に意訳すると、
「そのままの方向で行け！(行ってくれ！)」みたいな感じなのかも？

・ちょうど、ぴったり

でも、何故 "number" になるのか語源(由来)についての解説は
見つからなかったので、あくまで参考程度と言う事で。
引用元も「ウッズ」の台詞かに言及してないし、ゴルフ界での
一般的な「おまじない」なら、検索でヒットしないのも不自然かな。

あと、"right" には「正しい方向に戻す」と言う使い方も有るので、
引用元の回答後段とは逆で「そっちじゃない、戻して！」みたいに
言ってる可能性も捨て切れないので、これも一応念のため･･･
