まず、これをそのまま英語にするとちょっと変ですよ。

英語（というか、欧米の言語）では曖昧表現は日本人が意図するように伝わりません。
「あなたのような人」というのが「おとなっぽい人」と言われても、多分困惑するのではないかしら。

それから、「学ぶ」というのも日本的な謙譲的な言い方だと思いますけど、欧米人は、「僕はあなたの先生じゃないんだけど」、と感じ、やはり困惑すると思います。

で、以前の経緯とかは全く知らない状態で、思い切った意訳をして見ましたので、見てみてください。
「学ぶ」っていう表現を使う事に、まだ若干の抵抗はあるのですけれど。
