墓守 の英語は「undertaker」？

墓守と辞書で調べれば、a gravekeeper　と出ました。
しかし、とある洋画を見ていたら、字幕で「墓守」と出て、言葉ではundertakerと言っていました。
また、他の漫画で、墓守という部隊があり、読みがアンダーテイカーでした。

undertakerと調べたら葬儀屋と出ました。
………あれ？
どういうことでしょうか？気になります、一体何が正しいんでしょうか？？

強いて訳すなら「undertaker」は葬儀屋ですが、英語圏のundertakerは葬儀のほか、埋葬や火葬もやることがあるのです。

結構、この言葉、英語圏のゲーム界やプロレス界で墓守的に使われているようですね。「gravekeeper」だと「墓を守る」だけだけど、「undertaker」ならいろいろ「請け負う」からかな。

Try picking up the word "gravekeeper" with any English-English dictionary or use wikipedia. Does it give you a clear meaning for gravekeeper?

Again, the word "gravekeeper" is odd in the context. In the US/Europe, tombs are built and kept at the cemetery--not outside a temple you see in Japan or most Asian countries. Gravekeeper is NOT the same as a housekeeper, because there is no one who takes her/his role in taking care of your family's tomb on a regular basis.

A Japanese word "葬儀屋" is referred to a professional who takes charge of funeral service (from carrying the casket to cremation) for the bereaved families. No funeral professionals--such as undertakers, morticians--are responsible for maintaining your family’s tombs at the cemetery or a graveyard outside the temple.

A gravekeeper is NOT the word you see in the dictionary because it’s Japanese-English. Try it with Wikipedia. No one is responsible for maintaining the tombs except an owner of the cemetery.

Undertaker is a professional involved in funeral services. You can also say a mortician or a funeral director.
