thick? thickness?

厚さ○○cmは、○○ cm thickでしょうか。それとも○○ cm thicknessでしょうか。

「厚さ」と名詞にすると相対的な意味が出てきますが，

「どれくらい厚いか」のように
how thick とすると形容詞が使えます。

How old are you?
I'm thirty years old.

こういう年齢表現を基本として知っておけば
How long is the bridge?
It's thirty meters long.

How thick is the plate?
It's thirty centimeters thick.

という表現もわかると思います。

how とか，具体的な数値が前にくると
「どれくらい厚い」
「これこれ分，厚い」
で相対的な厚さを表現できます。

文の中の表現によりますが、thick を使う例が多いはずです。

Slice the dough into 1/2 inch thick slices.


thickness を使う例としては

Convertion from millimeter thickness to inches thickness

Since then, the roof became thinner and thinner
until in some places it was only about 10 centimeters thick,
less than one sixth its original thickness.

大きさの表現で名詞形を使うのは
3 times its original size
3 times in size

前置詞 in を使えば形の上では名詞形も可能です。
○○ cm thick → ○○ cm in thickness
(実際にはほとんど見かけませんが)

逆に its original thickness(side) は in が省略されている
と見ることもできますね。

○○ cm thickといいます。

例として私の手元のcookbookでの表現をお伝えします。

・Roll-and-cut Sugar Cookiesのレシピから
1)Pat the cookie dough into two 1/2-inch-thick disks　（クッキーの生地をたたいて、2分の1インチの厚さの円盤状にする）
2)Roll out the dough 1/8 inch thick (生地を8分の1インチの厚さに伸ばす）

　○○ cm thicknessという語のつながりはありません。

以下、関連表現を。

「暑さ3cmの板」＝a plate 3 cm thick
「この板の厚さは3cmである」= This plate is 3 cm thick.
「3cmという厚さでは～には薄すぎる」 = The thickness of 3 cm is too thin for ～.
