To climb or not to climb?
since Uluru is a sacred place, the Anangu do not want visitors to walk on it. A sign at the entrance asks people to respect the Anangus' wish, but climbing to the top is not formally prohibited. In fact, about half of the 400,000-plus visitors choose to 15 climb to the top. Would you?
Japanese equivalent?
In the 1960s, a highway halfway up Mount Fuji was built. Naturally the number of people who climbed up to the summit surged dramatically. In the early 1990s, a campaign was carried out to have the volcano declared a World Heritage site. However, after a visit in 1995, UNESCO concluded that Mount Fuji was too polluted-by garbage and human waste-to be listed as one. Today efforts are continuing to clean up the mountain.

登るべきか、登らざるべきか

ウルルは神聖な場所だから、アナング族は、訪問者がそこを歩かないでほしいと思っている。入り口の看板は、人々にアナング族の願いを尊重するように訴えているが、頂上に登る事は公式には禁止されていない。実際、40万人を超える訪問者のほぼ半分は、頂上に登ることを選択する。あなたならどうする？

日本における同様な例
1960年代、富士山の中腹まで道が建設された。当然の結果として、山頂に登る人の人数は、劇的に増加した。1990年代、この火山を世界遺産だと宣言してもらう運動が起こった。しかし1995年の訪問の後、ユネスコは、世界遺産として登録するには、富士山はゴミや人間が捨てた廃棄物で汚れすぎていると結論づけた。今日、山をきれいにする取り組みが継続中である。
