thanの後の名詞の簡略化

The black circle in the red box is larger than that in the blue box.

という文章なのですが、少し冗長的なので短くしたいと考えています。

例えば、このページにある例文のように、
thanの後のthatの直後にinが来る場合には、thatを省略できるようです。
つまり、以下のように書き換えても文法的に問題ないと思います。

The black circle in the red box is larger than in the blue box.

inが来る場合には、thatが省略できるという文は何度か見たことがあるのですが、
これはinに限らず、of for on at などの前置詞全てにおいてこのような簡略化は適応できるのでしょうか？


例えば、以下のような簡略化は問題ないでしょうか？

The black circle of the red box is larger than that of the blue box.
→The black circle of the red box is larger than of the blue box.

The black circle for the red box is larger than that for the blue box.
→The black circle for the red box is larger than for the blue box.


The black circle on the red box is larger than that on the blue box.
→The black circle on the red box is larger than on the blue box.


The black circle at the red box is larger than that at the blue box.
→The black circle at the red box is larger than at the blue box.

in の場合

It is colder in Hokkaido than (it is) in Tokyo.
のようにそもそも that で指すべき名詞がないんでしょうね。
