このように、rather than 以降にsvを置くことはできますでしょうか？

また、I think you should look for Japanese tourists at tourist spots such as in Kyoto or Osaka because there may be more of them there than here.のように、touristsを二重に避けるためにmore of themとするのは不自然でしょうか？解説よろしくお願いいたします！

１．rather than の後ろにはs+vも来ます。

この場合、you look for ~~ が既に出ているので、
　　それとペアになる you do ~~~とするのは良いでしょう。ただもっと簡単にするなら、
　　you do もカットして than in this countryside と出来ます。
２．touristsを二重に避けるためにmore of themとするのはOKです。但し、この文中の such as
に関してですが、A such as B は A、B 共に名詞が来るのが通例なので、tourist spots such as
　　in Kyoto or Osaka には違和感があります。具体的な場所名を挙げないならば、これも外して、
　　tourist spots in Kyoto or Osaka にしたらどうでしょう。
