代名詞的なsoの使い方がいまいちわかりません。

「もし宇宙船に乗るチャンスがあったなたあなたは喜んで搭乗しますか。」
英作します。
①If you had a chance to ride on a spaceship, would you be happy to do so?
②If you had a chance to ride on (in) a spaceship, would you like to do that?
①が問題集の答えで②が自分の答えです。
would you be happyとwould you like to ～の違いはわかります。
ポイントはto do soとto do that の違いです。soが on a spaceshipを省略してますか？
thatでは、だめですか？itも代わりには使えないですか？どうしてですか？
節丸ごと代名詞的に使うsoの方法はわかるのですが、すでに代動詞doになっているところで後をどんな代名詞を続けたらいいか全くわかりません。沢山参考書なども見てみました。ネット参考サイトも見たのですが、自分の質問に答えてくれるものにぶつかりませんでした。
教えてください。

do so と do it （あるいは do that) の使い別けは、文が2つあり最初の文と後の文の主語が同じなら普通 do so をつかいます。

貴方のご質問の例文では最初の文 If you had a ... の主語はyou, 後の文も would you be ...で主語は you です。だからdo so を使うのが自然です。

もし例文の前の文と後の文の主語が例えば次のように違っていたら do so ではなく、do that でも問題ありません。
If everyone had a chance to ride on a spaceship, would you be happy to do that?

　We sometimes add so, it or that after the substitute do. Do so, do it and do that are sometimes used differently, but they are often interchangeable:

Do so
