正確には and cried を crying 一語で置き換えたことになりますね。
これは分詞構文を使ったのです。

分詞構文とは、（誤解を恐れずごくごく大雑把な言い方をすれば、）
２つある述語動詞を、接続詞を用いずに一文に
組み込む文法事項のことで、
この場合、接続詞の and を削る代わりに、
cried を現在分詞 crying にしてあります。

crying のような分詞構文にしたほうが、
「抱き合う」のと「喜びの叫びを挙げる」という二つの出来事の
同時性がよく現れるかなと思って、
crying という形を提示したまでで、
and cried のままでも、もちろん十分ＯＫです。

というところは、英文のスタイル（文体）として私としては好ましくないように思います。
この８語を取り去って、The team を they にすれば、きれいにまとまりそうです。

◆These scenes taught me a valuable lesson. は問題文を借りたものになっていますね。
これは回答法としてはやや陳腐で、「わたしが学んだことは次のことです」のような感じにまとめたほうがいいかも。

◆最終文は our が２箇所にありますが、誰を含むのかわかりにくく、文体としては your のほうがベターです（一般論の中で一般の人々を指す your の用法です）。


以下、大文字にしている部分は修正箇所です。ご検討ください。

In a scene in THE film I saw last year, a football team managed to defeat their long-standing rival and all the teammates threw themselves into each other's arms CRYING for joy． THEY had been training VERY hard PROMPTED BY （または MOVED BY） THEIR strong desire to beat their rival. THIS IS WHAT I HAVE LEARNED FROM THE SCENE: what really counts is our determined EFFORTS to achieve our goals.
