前置詞の問題とその他の問題

お世話になります。

自分で考えた答えの間違いとわからなかったところをおしえてください。

前置詞の問題です。

１Have you heard ( from?of??) Ken ( from) his return?
2 He was ill (for ) a week and (from) that week his wife never left his side.
3 Remember to be ( in) good time (for) the concert because  if you're late
 they won't let you ( in) (at) the end (of) the show.

書き換え問題です

He　remained clam in the face of such obvious danger.

Confronted ( ???) he was (with) such obvious danger.

適当な語を入れる問題です。

Do　ｔｈｅｙ　think （？？？）　better of you on acoount of your fine dress?

日本語の意味もよくわかりません。

このような問題できても英語の実力に関係はないと思いますが、答えが１つのもありますし２つのもあります。２つの場合は斜線で区分けします。一応カッコには１語を当てはめると考えました。

１ Have you heard ( from / of ) Ken ( after / on ) his return?
** "hear from ～"＝「～から便りがある」
** "hear of ～"＝「～の噂を聞く」
** "after his return"＝「彼が帰ってから」
** "on his return"＝本来は「帰った時」だが上と同じととってもいい。

２ He was ill ( for ) a week and ( during ) that week his wife never left his side.
** "for"は現在完了だけではありません。過去を線としてみた時は「期間」として使えます。
** "during + 数字のない期間を表す名詞"
 
３ Remember to be ( in) good time (for) the concert because if you're late they won't let you ( in) ( at / towards ) the end (of) the show.
正解ですが、"towards the end of ～"だと「～の終わりに近づくと」という意味になります。

書き換え問題です
↓
"clam"は"calm"でしょうね。そしてあとの文も、"He remained calm"が文頭にないといけないでしょうね。

He remained calm in the face of such obvious danger.
「彼はそのような明らかな危険にもかかわらず平静を保った。」
 He remained calm, confronted ( as ) he was ( with ) such obvious danger.
** "Young as he was"＝"Though he was young"なんてのがありますね。"confronted"を"young"に置き換えて下さい。文語体ですね。

適当な語を入れる問題です。

Do they　think ( the ) better of you on acoount of your fine dress?
** "think better of ～"＝～を考え直す；見直す
** "on account of ～"は「理由」を表しますから、理由の"for"に直して下さい。
そうすると、次のような形態の文はよく辞書に載っています。
 Do they think the better of you for your fine dress?
「彼らはあなたの立派な服を見てそれだけあなたを見直すでしょうか？」
** この"the"は副詞で「～した分、それだけ；その分だけ」という意味です。

しかしまだこのような入試問題を出すところがあるのでしょうか？問題集でしょうね。

let you inのinは前置詞ではなく副詞です。

He remained clam in the face of such obvious danger.
Confronted (  ) he was (  ) such obvious danger.
これはお手上げです。わかりません。

Do they think ( the ) better of you on account of your fine dress?
all the better of のallを省略した形です。

１つわかりませんでしたが、あとは大丈夫だと思います。

* まさに問題のための問題という感じです。こんな問題に正解を出せる人がいるんだろうかと思いました。私の手には余るのですが、少しでも参考になればということで私の考えた答えを書いてみます。正しいかどうかは分かりません。

→ Have you heard from Ken on his return?

帰宅したケンから連絡を受けましたか？

> 2 He was ill (for ) a week and (from) that week his wife never left his side.

→ He was ill in a week and during that week his wife never left his side.

彼は１週間の間具合が悪かった。その間、彼の妻は彼のそばを離れなかった。

* for a week (１週間にわたって) であれば、He had been ill for ... という形になるのではないかと思います。

> 3 Remember to be ( in) good time (for) the concert because if you're late they won't let you ( in) (at) the end (of) the show.

* それで正しいと思います。in good time for ... （時間に余裕を持って）

> He　remained clam in the face of such obvious danger.

Confronted ( ???) he was (with) such obvious danger.

→ Confronted (？) he was in such obvious danger.

* 前の ( ) の中は私も分かりません。後ろは be in danger (危険にひんしている) ではないかと思います。

> Do　ｔｈｅｙ　think （？？？）　better of you on acoount of your fine dress?

→ Do ｔｈｅｙ think all the better of you on account of your fine dress?

彼らは、あなたの素晴らしいドレスのためにますますあなたのことを思うでしょうか？

* これも自信なし。着ているものが立派なら、高く評価してもらえるだろうか、という意味？　よく分かりません。
