・疑問詞は必ずしも文頭に置かなくてもいいの？

英語で疑問文の疑問詞は必ず文頭に持ってくる と教わります。
先ずは、昔の中学１年の英語の教科書でよく最初に出て来た有名な文です。

それでは、penをwhatに置き換えて疑問文にしてみます。

What is this?

次は少し複雑な文です。

In the United States now, the acquisition competition for human resources equipped with accounting  skills intensifies.

そこで今度は、In the United Statesをwhereに置き換えて同様に疑問文にしてみます。

Where now, the acquisition competition for human resources equipped with accounting  skills intensifies？

そこまでは問題ありません。それでは 次にさっきの文の ccounting  skillsをwhatに置き換えて疑問文を作ろうと思います。

・・・・ちょっと待ってください。そこで問題が起きました。
この場合は (be) equipped with X の X の部分を尋ねる疑問文ですが、
その X は主たる文ではなく、
主たる文の主語
the acquisition competition for human resources
を修飾する部分の中にあります。

”こういう、文の中で入り組んだ部分について、
・・・ wh- を使って尋ねることはできません。

・・・・・

長い主語の一文にすぎないものについて、
主たる文的に尋ねることはできません。

(be) equipped with ～が主たる部分になるように、
文を書き換えないと what で尋ねられません。”

と私も思っておりました。ところがです、↓のようなサイトを発見しました。

 疑問詞を文頭に持ってこない形にすれば、どうやら、出来ないことはないようなのです。

そこで質問ですが、このように  疑問詞を文頭に持ってこない形は英語のネーティブもよく使うんでしょうか？

疑問詞を文頭に動かさない例は珍しくはありません。

１．口語で

(2)    “Now,” said Umbridge, looking up at Trelawney, “you've been in this post how long, exactly?” [Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix, Ch. 15]

２．もっと情報が欲しいとき
(3)  [Seeing somebody reading]: You’re reading what?
(4)  [Discussing pot-luck plans]: Diane’s baking a cake, Magda’s buying bagels, and Harry’s bringing what?

３．クイズ番組の問題で（今回はこれ）
