こちら（https://lang-8.com/61941/journals/11259166708148 …）で、ネイティブ２名が、with his eyes closed に異存は示していませんが、with his closing eyes は聞いたことがないと異口同音に仰っています。

with his closing eyes 閉じかけている目で・と共に

with his eyes closed 目を閉じて

と言ったら、分かりやすいかもしれませんね。

普通、with his eyes closed と言います。

もし、まだ起きていて眠ろうとしているなどという特殊なことを言いたいなら、with his eyes closing でもいいですけど、納得できるような文脈が欲しいと思います。

with his closing eyes だと、まさかこの closing を動名詞とは取りにくいと思いますが、
分詞の形容詞用法だとして、形容詞の前置用法は類別に使うものなので、
たとえば drunken man が「酔っぱらい」を意味するように、あるいは類別して、those given books と these purchased books を区別するように、まるで「閉じかけている目」というものが社会に定着しているかのような、あるいは、その他の状態の目と類別しているような、妙な表現です。

わたしは間違えはないと思います。

Although ~ , というフレーズはありえる表現だし。in bedも間違えでないし。
with his closing eyes.も文法的齟齬はない。

ただし、with his closing eyes はちょっとわざわざこの書き方にするかなという感覚もあります。

Although it was late, I went into the room and found him lying in bed and closing eyes.ぐらいでいいのかなという気がします。
