もっと身近な例をあげてみましょう。

あなたが紙に印刷された本を読んでいるとします。でも、その本の原稿はコンピューターの中に保存されてたりします。
この電子的なテキストをそのまま読者に届ける方が、紙に印刷して、倉庫に運び、本屋の書棚に陳列して、読者がそれを買いに来るのを待つよりは、ずっと効率的ですよね。
コンピューターネットワークの上の情報データとしてアクセス出来るようになれば、安上がりだ、というだけのことにとどまりません。紙の上に印刷された形の本というものが、もはや時代遅れということにもなるかもしれません。
