almost　の用法についてですが

almost of 名詞　が駄目なのはなぜでしょうか

almost　が副詞で　of 名詞も、前置詞＋名詞　で副詞となって副詞が副詞を修飾することはできませんか？

副詞だらけの文章ですみませんが、わかる方よろしくお願いします

almost + of + 名詞という言い回しを探すと特殊例的な文例は見つかります。

“It is a feeling of relief, almost of pleasure, at knowing yourself at last genuinely down and out. You have talked so often of going to the dogs - and well, here are the dogs, and you have reached them, and you can stand it. It takes off a lot of anxiety.”

でも一般的には almost + of + 名詞という言い回しはダメなので、高校の教室で特殊例を言うのは教育的には（一般的には）逆効果と思います。

辞書や参考書では、almost を「ほとんど」と覚えさせるように説明が多いと思います。

しかし almost all 「ほとんどすべて」、 almost no 「ほとんど…ない」の時だけ「ほとんど」となります。それ以外は「もう少しで」「…に近い」「危うく」「ほぼ」などの言葉が当てはまります。後続の単語の瀕死は、動詞、形容詞が多く、数詞や「すべて」の意味のある単語が続く時に alomost の意味が明確に出てきます。nealy に近いです。

alnost died 「もう少しで死ぬところだった」→辛うじて生き残った
almost missed the bus 「危うくバスに乗り遅れるところだった」→発射寸前で駆け込んだ
almost all the people 「ほとんど全員の人達」→「全員ではない」
understand almost nothing 「ほとんど何も理解していない」→「ほんの僅かに理解している」

almost　が副詞で　of 名詞も、前置詞＋名詞　で副詞となって副詞が副詞を修飾することはできませんか？
→前置詞＋名詞で形容詞句になったり、副詞句になったりして、almostがそれを修飾することはできます。

★almost ofがダメというのは、恐らく次のような場合の話だと思います。

most of people
some of people
many of people
*almost of people →　これは間違いです。

some of peole などが誤りなように，

almost of people も誤りですが，
そういう意味で almost of がだめ，というのではありません。

some of the peole ならいいですが，
almost of the people は正しくない，
ということです。

とにかく，「ほとんどの人々」という場合，
almost が「ほとんど」だからといって
almost (the) people とか，
almost of (the) people などと言えない。

most people
most of the people
almost all (the) people
almost all of the people
almost every person
などが正しくなる。

almost は形容詞ではないので，名詞に直接つけられないし，
of があっても同じ。

品詞的にこういう前置詞＋名詞が副詞句（あるいは形容詞句）で
副詞によって修飾される，という次元では考えられません。

「ほとんどの人々」という場合，「人々」の数・範囲が「ほとんど」であって，
almost を使うのであれば，all/every のような「すべて」という意味について
「ほとんど」である，
という意味的に考えないといけません。

だから，何らかの省略表現的に almost / of 名詞
のような表現は使えます。

そういう意味で almost of ～がだめ，
というのでなく，とにかく，「ほとんどの～」という場合に
almost (of) 名詞などということができない。

これは頻出問題です。
