Most people,when they are left free to fill their own time according to their own choice,are at a loss to think of anything sufficiently pleasant to be worth doing.

The mother who is conventionally self-sacrificing is,in a great majority of cases,exceptionally selfish towards her children,for,important as parenthood is as element in life,it is not satisfying if it is treated as the unsatisfied parent is likely to be an emotionally greedy parent.

ほとんどの人は、自分の時間を自分の好きなように自由に使える状況に置かれると、やってみる価値がある（と思える）ほど楽しいことを思いつくことができないで、当惑してしまう。

The mother who is conventionally (called) self-sacrificing is, in a great majority of cases, exceptionally selfish towards her children, for, important as parenthood is as (an) element in life, it is not satisfying if it is treated as (the whole of life and) the unsatisfied parent is likely to be an emotionally greedy parent.
