不定詞

hang the laundry to dry.
この不定詞は形容詞用法、副詞用法どちらでしょうか？
個人的には副詞的用法(ここでのdryは自動詞でhangを修飾)ではないかとおもうのですが。
また、洗濯物を洗うために洗剤を持って来なければなりませんか？という文を作った場合、
1Do I have to bring any detergent to wash the laundry with?
2Do I have to bring any detergent to wash the laundry ?
どちらが適切(又は文意が異なる)でしょうか。
また学校で英語を勉強するために辞書が必要だったという場合、以下の文ではどうでしょうか？
３I needed a dictionaly to study English at school.
４I needed a dictionaly to study English in at school.
不定詞の形容詞、副詞用法の区別がなかなかつきません。
ご迷惑をおかけしますがよろしくお願いします。
自分なりには、１が形容詞句として働き文意が合う、３が副詞句として文意が合うと思うのですが...

不定詞の形容詞的用法は関係節で言い換えられます。

I have nothing to say.
= I have nothing that I should say.

Give me something to eat.
=Give me something that I can eat.

He was the first to come.
= He was the first who came.

I need a pencil to write with.
= I need a pencil that I could write with.
= I need a pencil with which I could write.

副詞的用法は、副詞節に書き換えられます。
so that S should/could V
in order that S should V
ここで注意しなければならないのは、不定詞の主語は主節と同じだということです。
逆に言えば、主節と同じ主語をつけたら文として成り立てばよい。


I hang the laundry to dry はどうでしょうか。
形容詞的用法だとすると、
I hang the laundry that you should dry.
「乾かすべき洗濯物を干す」
と言い換えることができます。

副詞的用法だとすると、dry は自動詞ということになりますから、「乾かす」ではなく「乾く」という意味です。
つまり、「乾くために洗濯物を干す」となり、乾くのは「干す人」になってしまいます。
I hang the laundry in order that I dry.



detergent to wash the laundry (with) ですが、形容詞的用法で「洗濯するための洗剤」という意味であれば、関係節にできます。
detergent that I can wash the laundry (with)
二つの文に分けると、
detergent ＋ I can wash the laundry (with) the detergent
となり、with が必要であることが分かります。

一方、副詞的用法で「洗濯物を洗うために」であれば、
detergent so that I can wash the laundry
となり、文として成立しますから、detergent to wash the laundry だけで結構です。


「学校で英語を勉強するために」というのであれば、目的を表す副詞的用法ですから、関係節は無関係です。
したがって、
I needed a dictionary to study English at school.
となります。

to dry は干すために という意味の句で副詞句でしょう。

hang にかかります。
detergent to wash the laundry の後に with は要りません。少なくとも冗長です。
dictionary to study English の後に in も at at school も要りません。
