文法というよりも

英語にしやすいように日本語をまず変えてみるのがよいのでは。
「私が12歳で、始めて海をみたとき、そこにはまだずっと豊かな自然があった」

When I was 12 years old and I first saw the ocean, there was still much more rich nature.
