Mr.Tanaka is out now, and I don't know when he will be back in the office.とゆう文で、be backの後にinがきているのですがなぜですか？ふつうtoとかが来るのではないかと思うのですが、、

back to the future で、もし未来に行くのではなくて、未来に落ち着く腰を据える、とかのイメージであれば in を使うと思います。

in を使った言い方のほうが一般的だからです。

こちらでは意味はおなじだけど、 in を使うという人ばかりです。

こちらでは to は be back と使うのはなにか変な感じがすると言っています。
got back や go back となら、いいそうです。
また、in は空間的な位置を示し、to は移動を示すという違いがある、
と言っている人がいます。
