We could use some rest.
（私たちは休憩を取ったほうがいい）

上記は、ある海外ドラマの台詞です。
なぜ、use some restで休憩を取るという訳になるのでしょうか？
辞書を引いても、該当するものは見つけられませんでした。

Longman Dictionaryには以下のような項目がありました。

sb/sth could use sth SPOKEN

a) if you say you could use something, you mean you would really like to have it:
- You look like you could use some sleep.

b) if you say something could use something, you mean it needs it:
- The house could use another coat of paint.

～したい、又は、～が必要だという意味になります。
同様に考えて良いのではないでしょうか。
