・I'm abstaining from alcohol for a short while considering my health.
forを使っても通用しますが、redundant（同じ言葉を使いすぎ）なので、
considerを入れてみました。

また、
I'm hopping on the wagon/climbing the wagon for my health.
話し言葉でwagon=水運搬車に乗る、軽い禁酒みたいな言い回しも使えます。

I'm on the wagon health-wise.
I'll go on the wagon healtwise.

** be on the wagon＝一時的に禁酒している（一時的と分かっているから"for a while"は不要）
** go on the wagon＝一時的に禁酒する
** healthwise＝health-wise＝健康のために

(formal)
I will abstain from drinking for a while for my health.
