名詞はof whichの前か後か

of whichの使い方について教えてください。

となっています。
これはどちらが正しい用法ですか？

#2 で誤りとしている本もある、と申しましたが、ジーニアスをはじめ、多くの辞書で

of which the ～のパターンは出ています。

ただ、所有格部分が主語になる場合はいいですが、
a word the meaning of which I don't know のような、目的語になる場合には
of which the meaning とするのは確実におかしくなります。

the meaning of which というかたまりで、目的語の位置から前に出るため、
of which the meaning という入れ替えがより破綻する。
（主語の場合にも破綻、とする人もいるのでしょう）


昔はこの点については触れられていませんでした。
また、この場合、
a word (that/which) I don't know the meaning of
のように、the meaning of を最後に置くことが可能で（主語の場合は無理）
特に which を省略すると、ある程度自然な英語になってきます。

こういう書き方も以前は習いませんでしたね。

今から数十年前は中学でも（塾や発展内容では）やりましたね。

その時はどちらも正しいと習いました。

ものであっても、its という所有格を使うように、whose を用いることができる。

それでもやはりものなので、of ～を使うのが of which です。

the roof of it, the roof of the house のようなかたまりになるというのが
the roof of which という考えです。

動詞につく、talk of ～であれば
the thing of which we talked
the thing (that/which we talked of
のように、of which が前に出ることがあるのですが、
この考えでは the roof of which でかたまりです。

一方、それでも of which を wh- である以上前に出す、というのが
of which the roof です。
its のように of which roof とはできません。

今では高校レベルでもほぼ習いません（大学入試対策でたまにやります）が、
of which the roof は誤り、と断言している本もあります。
正しいとしても、かなりまれです。

the roof of which にしても、
the house the roof of which is red はつながりが見えにくいのと、
内容的にも継続用法的であり、the house, the roof of which is red とすべき
という声もあります。

いずれも whose roof is red の方がましで、これは昔から言われていますが、
the house with a red roof とするのが自然です。

→正しい文

They live in a house of which the roof is red.
→正しくありません。

所有をあらわすのに、所有格を使うのと、of . . . を使うのの2通りがあります。ただし、常に両方が成立するわけではありません。

the house's roof
the roof of the house
という2通りができます。

このhouseを先行詞にして関係詞をつくる場合ーー

They live in a house + the house's roof is red.
→They live in a house whose roof is red.

They live in a house + the roof of the house is red.
→They live in a house the roof of which is red.

というからくりがわかりますか？
+ the house's roof, + the roof of the houseのthe house's, the houseをそれぞれ関係代名詞に置き換えているわけです。

は、英辞郎が間違っていると思います。
tubes the tips of which are in the stomach
あるいは
tubes whose tips are in the stomach
が正しいと思います。
ちなみに英辞郎の他の例は、こんな変なことになっていないと思います。
