Beef cows not only drink water themselves but eat grass and grain.肉牛は水を飲むだけでなく、草や穀物を食べます。

という文について質問です。
not only A, but (also) B という文法が使われていると思うんですが、beef cowsがdrinkするのに、notはdon't にならないのですが？

私が英作するのであれば、
Beef cows don't only drink water themselves but eat grass and grain.
としてしまいそうなのですが…

このnot only,but also構文で、助動詞のdoを使うと、否定形になってしまいます。

この文が否定文なわけではありませんよね。

notは限定詞のonlyを否定しているのです。「～だけではない」のです。
なので S drink not only water, but also alcohol. など用途によって場所も変わるし、他の品詞の前にも置けます。

で、なんでだめかっていうと、
Beef cows don't drink water themselves.
は文全体を否定しています。
つまり、「水を飲まない」ってことになってしまうんです。

しかし、
Beef cows not only drink water themselves but eat grass and grain.
これは違う。
否定しているどころか、肯定文です。
