関西大学の1990年の英語の問題です。どの様にしてこの答えを導くのか、考え方を教えてください。

Treasured objects have special significance for people who invest them with personal meaning. Often cherished objects serve as visible links to loved 【ones】, events, or traditions of the past. I treasure an ancient necklace I found among my grandmother's possessions after she died. I never saw her wear it. It was, in fact, a gift from her closest friend's daughter after her friend's death, and thus a link to someone close to my grandmother. A girl who lived with me once borrowed it without my permission and lost it. She found it later, but I felt sad while it was missing and somehow happy again after it was recovered. As is the case with most treasures, there is much mystery in my attachment to this necklace;I do not know what it really means, but it means a lot.

問題に目を通して、ア～エをそれぞれ何かを把握しておきます。

それから本文を読み進めて、"loved ones"が何かを一つひとつ当てはめてみることです。どれが最も適しているか。
アー人、イー物、ウー所有物、エー宝物。

二文目「大切にされてきた物(cherished objects)は愛する【ones】や出来事、過去のしきたりに目に見える形でつながっていることがある」と書かれて、そのあとから「祖母の古いネックレスを大切にしてきた」と言う具体的な話になるので「愛する【ones】＝人＝祖母」との絆のことだと分かると思います。
