マーチン・スコセッシの映画『ギャング・オブ・ニューヨーク』についての文を読んでいたらfive-square-block areaという表現がありましたが，意味がわかりません。
以下の文中にあります。
For the next two decades, the Irish ruled Five Points, overcrowding a roughly five-square-block area centered on the intersection of Cross Street (today's Park Street), Anthony Street (today's Worth), and Orange Street (today's Baxter).

このfive-square-block areaという言い方はセットフレーズなのでしょうか？

次のようにroughlyを伴う例もあります。

いい忘れていました。

下記に添付した地図の上のほうをみて、Centre StreetとBroadwayの間にあるブロックを数えると5つになりますよね。これを5ブロックｘ5ブロックの四方形の面積の一辺となる。

Five PointsとはWorth Steetの158番地で移民時代で最も栄えた場所。

添付にある絵のように"Paradise Squareパラダイス・スクエアー",とよばれ、右上に抜ける道がAnthony Streetで左上に通じる道がCross Streetで手前が左から右に横たわるOrange Street

wikiによれば一般的に、このFive Pointを中心とした西がCentre Street東がBowery, 北がCanal Street南が Park Row に囲まれた四方形としては少しいびつな地域を、rougtly(大雑把に言えば下記の二方
が説明をされたように縦横５ブロックぐらいの面積の地区をIrishマフィアが牛耳る・・・・

最初、five-square-block areaは「スラム」を指すセットフレーズかと思いましたが、
そうではないのですね。

縦５ブロック、横５ブロックの範囲。

従って一般的には正方形にはなりません。
fiveの代わりに別の数字を入れても使えます。

　　　　と言う意味です。通りと通りの間が１ブロックです。だから長いところも短いところもあります。
