Barbara Delinskyの" Sweet Salt Air" の下の一節で文法的にどうもよくわからないところがあります。

Charlotte awoke to the sound of the surf, the smell of sweet biscuits, and a sense of peace. Some of that peace was from the lavender in her pillowcase, its scent a halo around her still, but she was convinced that what she felt went beyound that. Just as her coming here as a child had been crucial, so was this.

この2行目の、its scent a halo around her stillは動詞が省略されているのでしょうか？つまり、
its scent ( is ) a halo around her stillというように、(is)が省略されているとの理解でよろしいのでしょうか？

本来ならばandがあるべきですが・・・文学的な表現方として抜けているのかな
「枕のなかのラベンダと、女の静寂に漂う花の香りと後光から、その安らぎの一部が、やってきた。」

1.　just as = at the same time as(同時であるさま) ～と全く同じように、またはWhenと置き換えても差し支えないはず。
2. as a child　子供として
As ~asの構文ではない
” her coming here ”「彼女がここに来たこと」が主語
彼女が子供としてここにやって来たこと大切であったと同じように
ｓｏ was this (this←that←that peace)
この安らぎが大切であった。

「彼女が子供としてここにやって来たことが重要であったように、この安らぎが大切であった」

質問1について
　「I think this is an absolute construction. You can think of it as a case where the participle "being" has been omitted.」
たしかに、独立分詞構文と考えて前のフレーズに出てくるlavenderを修飾していると考えればしっくりきます。これが直感でわかるんだからやはりネイティブは羨ましい!

　なお、a halo は香り(scent)が彼女の周りにまだ残っていることを比喩的に表現したもので、ここでは、辞書の通り「後光」と訳すのではなく「彼女の周りにラベンダーの香りが漂う」的な訳出が良いそうです。

質問2について
「We don't know from the part you have quoted what is crucial. The author is saying that "this" was as crucial as the fact that she had come here as a child. We don't know from these lines what they are crucial to.」
　とうことで、as-as構文でないことは確かですね。ただ、後半のasはwhenの意味ではないでしょうか？　彼女が子供として来る、では意味不明だと思います。
　
　「子供の時ここに来たことが重要であるのと同様に、thisもまた重要なのだ。」
※教えてくれたネイティブはthis が何を指すのか分からないと言ってますが、newbeesさんのおっしゃるように that peace あるいは、a sense of peace　を指しているとの理解でもいいかもしれませんね。
