1)You'd say the first sentence if you were there with Tom and were pointing him out to someone else (for instance if they asked "where is Tom?") you'd say "THERE is Tom, with the camera"
You'd say the second sentence if you wanted to tell someone that Tom will be or is there, even if you're not there yourself "Tom IS there with the camera"
2)There is tom= the use of there at the beginning of the sentence gives the idea that you see him and can somewhat point at him
Tom is there= he is somewhere else and could be waiting for you with the camera
3)there is not much of a difference
because they both mean the same but the words are just in different order.
4)'There' is a strong form of (adv) used before the subject in the first sentence & after the subject in the second sentence. This is the word difference, the meaning is same.
Add to My Contacts
5)In the first, you're pointing out Tom, possibly to someone who doesn't recognize him (so you're distinguishing him from the other men, who don't have cameras). You may also use this sentence to imply that Tom always has his camera with him (and perhaps it's annoying or inappropriate that he does now).
In the second, you're referring to a specific place where you're not as "there" and saying that Tom is in that place and has his camera. You'd probably use this sentence if you (or the person you're speaking to) weren't planning to (or couldn't) go, but expected to see pictures later.

What's the difference, when you are saying or writing, between "There is Tom with the camera" and " Tom is there with the camera" ?
I'm Japanese. Could you tell me what you feel about this?
Thanks in advance.

This is a pen.
Just imagine. There is Yoko with a camera. What do you think she is doing?
そして、There she is with camera!!

1. There is Yoko with the camera.
2. Yoko is there with the camera.
