英文を直訳で

となっていますが、直訳で、文法説明もお願いします。

元の文のを簡略化するとThis type of event is 　what for. となります。

the event is what for はthe event is (イコール）　what for です。　イコールだから　the event is the eventです。　後者のeventは　the event that the years of training was intended for 長年にわたって行ってきた訓練の目的てあるところのeventです。　　　　　　　　　....... うーん　どーでしょうか。

what the years of training were for　は「長年訓練してきたこと」

文法説明
whatは～こと

years of は長年にわたる～
