Memory is vital to forming a person's identity and providing the stable sense of reality. Despite memory's fundamental importance, its basis in the brain remains largely mysterious. Attempts to develop computer models of the brain show that is far more complex than any system devised by software designers. Recently, scientists have be memory's basis in the brain on a cellular level.

記憶は人の人格を形成するのと、現実に対する安定した感覚を提供するのに必要不可欠だ。記憶の基本的な重要事項であるにも関わらず、それらの基礎となる脳は多くの謎を残している。脳のコンピューターモデルを開発する試みは記憶は他のどんなソフトウェアデザイナーによって作れたシステムよりもはるかに複雑であることを示した。最近、科学者は記憶の基である脳を細胞レベルで証明をし始めた。

これだと日本語としてスムーズではないので
「記憶の根本的重要性にかかわらず、脳の中でどのように機能しているかはいまだによくわかっていない」といった感じではどうでしょう？

show that is farなので、「示した」ではなく「示している」ですね。
私でしたら
「脳のコンピューターモデルを開発する試みは、ソフトウエア設計者が考案したいかなるシステムよりもはるかに複雑であることを示している」と訳します。

文脈を考えるとrecentlyは「最近になって」と訳す方がいいように思います。
「最近になって記憶が脳の中でどのように機能するのか細胞レベルで解明されつつある」
