granted と granting

granted that と granting that は同じ意味で使われるようで、「仮に～としても」と辞書にあります。これはどうしてそうなるのでしょうか？　grant は「認める」ですから、granting のほうがあっているような気がするのですが、どうなのでしょう?

例文を使いましょう。

Granted/Granting that he likes dogs, he must know the name of that kind of dogs.:「彼が犬を好きだとすると、その種類の犬の名前を知っているはずだ。」

Granted の方は、If it is granted that he likes dogs, he must know the name of that kind of dogs. からのIf it is の省略で、
Granting のほうは、If we are granting that he likes dogs, he must know the name of that kind of dogs. からの　If we are の省略ですね。
