コンマの使い方についいて

　未だにコンマの正しい使い方がわかりません。

　特に、文頭に副詞（句）がきたときにいつも迷います。　例えば「At first it is difficult.」という文が辞書にありました。　私がもしこの文を書くのであれば、firstの後ろに「,」をつけてしまいます。　理由は「ただなんとなく」「見やすいから」というものです。

　この文に「,」をつけてしまった場合。やはり正しい英文とはいえないのでしょうか？　「,」があったりなかったりと、正しい使い方が分かりません。　ご教授よろしくおねがいします。

アメリカの高校の教科書'English'（Houghton Mifflin社刊）によれば、

1) Prepositional Phrases（前置詞句）
　文頭に四語以上の前置詞句がある場合、その後にカンマをおく。
　During the worst days of the Great Depression, movie attendance rose dramatically.

2) Participial Phrases（分詞句）
　文頭の分詞句の後にカンマをおく。
　Exhausted and breathless, the winner collapsed at the finish line.

3) Adverbial Clauses（副詞句）
　文頭の副詞句の後にカンマをおく。
　Although many people believe that golf originated in Scotland, the game actually may have originated in the Netherlands.

私も質問者と同じように"At first, "とカンマをつけたい方なのですが、次のLDOCE（Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English）の"first"の項にある例文にはカンマは見られません。

"At first I didn't like him but now I do."

Oxford University Pressの'A Practical English Grammar'の日本語版『実例英文法』の「前置詞」の項にある例文も同様です。

"At first we used hand tools. Later we had machines.
"At first he opposed the marriage, but in the end he gave his consent.

文法に暗いので、参考程度にして下さい(泣)

Firstly, secondly の場合は、私は、長年の癖と見よう見まねで、

「Firstly, I would like to,,,,」
「Secondly, we should make ...」
と「、」を付けています。

邪道だと言う向きもあるかも知れないが(泣)、「、」を付ける付けないで世の中ひっくり返るこたーない位の感じです。

「At first」の場合はかなり微妙ですが、「、」を付けない方が言葉の通りはイイ様です、かなり感覚的なものです。

理論的に反論されたら、「はい、そうですか」って無言で引き下がります(爆)
