どちらの副詞句を使うべきでしょうか？

At last I lost all my fortune.
In the end I lost all my fortune.

どちらの副詞句を使ったほうが上の文例では良いのか困っています。

どちらも使用可能と思いますが、at lastは、好ましいことに対して使用され、in the endは、文語体で使用される傾向があるので、色々事業を起こしたけど最終的には財産を失ったような好ましくない状況を想定し、会話でなく文章として使用するとすれば、in the endが望ましいように思えます。

条件を限定しての説明です。

At last には前向きな「ついに、とうとう（やった）」のイメージがあるが。

In the end 　行き着いた「最終地点、結末」。「ついに、最後には」

この場合は At last です．

At last は時間的に，「ついに」，「とうとう」の意味で，ある程度長い時間が立って（待っていて）やっと実現した，という意味合いです．At long last とも言います．
一方，in the end は，finally とか，lastly という意味で，複数の物/事/人を想定して，その最後にという意味合いです．例えば，第一に～，第二に～．～～～，最後に～」といった場合ですね．

実際には混用することもありますが，伝統的な英文法を意識する場合には使い分けた方がよいでしょう．

at last

と
in the end
はニュアンスがだいぶ違いますね。

in the end は　after all　にちかいかな。
at last は、finally ,eventually にちかい。

「結局、なくしちゃったよ」が In the end
「ついに、なくしちゃったよ」が　At last

と思います。
