イギリス人の苗字に「モア」と付くのはなぜ？

加えて、これまた往年のロックバンド「ピンク・フロイド」のギタリスト、デヴィッド・ギルモア(David Gilmour ：この場合はmoreではなくmour）

・・・と、イギリス人の苗字には「モア」の付く場合が散見されるように感じます。
（トマス・モアのように「モア」単体の苗字の著名人も、他にいるのかも知れません）

これに対して、アメリカ人の苗字で「モア」と付くのが、どうにも思い浮かびません。

あくまで個人的な見解の域を出ていないので、疑問と呼ぶにはあまりに稚拙で誠に申しわけないのですが、おわかりになる方がいらっしゃいましたらお教えいただければ幸いです。併せて、間違いがあればご指摘下されば、なお幸いです。宜しくお願い致します。

念のため　SMITHで探したら

としても　USAの件数がですぎだと思われますが、MOREさんがイギリスにばかりいる（葬られている）というのはありえない話。

単に有名人が　イギリスにたまたまいたということかと

残念ながら、回答者様ご提示のサイトは、当方には上手く扱いができませんでしたが、ご主旨は苗字ごとの埋葬者数、と言ったところで宜しいのでしょうか？

ご説明のとおりとすれば、「モア」と付く苗字はイギリス人だけのものではない、とのこと、単に有名人に、「モア」と付く人物が、たまたまイギリスにいた、ということ、ですね。

てっきり、「モア」と付く苗字はイギリス人のものだけか、と思い込んでおりました。単純に比べても、たしかに、アメリカの人口はイギリスの６倍、「モア」と付く苗字のかたがいないわけはないですね。
