英作文the person～の受ける代名詞

英作文学習中のものです．以下の＊枠内の英文について質問があります．

最後の一文は　theyとhe or sheのどちらが正しいのでしょうか？
２行目のthe person on the other end of the lines が
someone you write toならば
he or sheで正しいそうですが，the person on the other end of the lines 場合は
受ける代名詞はどうなるのか．
ネットで調べても出て来ないため困っています．

Unlike the telephone, it does not bother the person on the other end of the lines
even when he or she is busy.

he or sheで問題ないです

例文もそのままでいいと思います

ただ修正するとすれば

These days[ , ] e-mail [has become] more common as a useful means of communication.　(もしくは、has been becoming more and more common)
Unlike the telephone, it does not bother [ones (or persons)] on the other end of the lines (← "-s") even when [they are] busy.

にしたいです

line[s]はどっちでもいいですが、それに合わせて体裁を整える必要があると思います
onesやpersonsにtheはつけてもつけなくてもいいと思います
